What The Most Successful Dieters Have In Common

Losing weight and successfully keeping it off may seem like an impossible dream. But a large proportion of obese Americans are successful dieters, according to researchers at Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

Data from more than 4,000 obese adults showed that over half were trying to lose weight, and 40 percent of those had dropped 5 percent or more of their body weight, according to the researchers. That’s significant because even a 5 percent weight reduction can be beneficial, say the medical center experts.

The dieters who were most successful exercised more and ate less fat. Those who were in a weight-loss program also reported losing more weight. But liquid diets, weight-loss pills and diet food products didn’t lead to weight loss, according to the findings published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
