The Health Benefits Of A Spa Retreat

A week in spa retreat can actually improve your physical and emotional well-being, suggests a recent study from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.

The health experts evaluated the safety and benefits of retreats, looking at 15 participants whose week at a spa included juice fasts, yoga, laxatives and meditation. The study participants avoided meat, pasta, cheese, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods.

The spa-goers in the study lost an average of more than six pounds, and they also had reduced levels of anxiety, improved blood pressure readings and lower cholesterol levels.

If you’re interested in a spa program that includes significant dietary changes, be sure to check with your physician first, say the hospital experts.
